Qatar National Bank (QNB), the state’s largest financial institution, is offering customers a cash bonus in exchange for activating an NFC payments account and conducting at least one transaction.

The service is offered by QNB in conjunction with mobile network operator Qtel. It currently works with both BlackBerry NFC phones and contactless stickers and allows users to make payments of up to 100 Qatari riyals (US$27.46) at merchants equipped with a contactless terminal without providing a signature or PIN. Customers who sign up and make use of the service by 10 July 2012 will be eligible for the bonus.

“The key feature of this rewards period is that all new Tap and Pay users will receive cash bonuses upon activating their card and its first subsequent usage,” the bank explains. “On their first Tap and Pay transaction customers will receive a cash payment equal to the transaction amount. This bonus will only be granted once and must be during the campaign period. Also, the maximum cash bonus received will be 100 QAR, even if the transaction amount is greater.”

The bonus will be transferred to customers’ credit card accounts at the end of the promotion period, QNB adds, providing their NFC service is still active and their credit card account is in good standing.
