McDonald’s will have installed contactless point-of-sale terminals in all its restaurants in the UK by the end of this month, Mark Fabes, the fast food giant’s UK IT director, has revealed.
Faster transaction speeds are a key adoption driver, he told Computing, as well as the potential to use NFC for marketing and promotions:
“We recognise that contactless near-field communications capability will soon be in many customers’ hands. We believe that having this technology now will help drive people into our restaurants.”
The move may also provide a new outlet for the company’s marketing strategy.
“It also allows us to consider what we may do in the loyalty space with promotions and vouchering.”
