NBC tests new mobile payment app — Khmer Times — “The National Bank of Cambodia yesterday announced that is testing a mobile payment application system known as Bakong… Four financial institutions are so far included — Acleda Bank, Foreign Trade Bank, Wing Specialised Bank and Vattanac Bank… The new system will facilitate money transfers and payments (including across national borders) while enhancing financial inclusion in the country.”

Seven-Eleven mobile pay hack hits Japan’s drive to go cashless — Nikkei Asian Review — “Japan’s second-largest retail group by sales on Monday rolled out 7pay, which lets users make purchases with a smartphone app at Seven-Eleven Japan’s roughly 21,000 stores nationwide… By early Thursday, Seven & i had confirmed about 55 million yen ($510,000) stolen from 900 or so 7pay users. The company has in effect suspended the service by stopping users from adding money to their accounts.”

New chain outlets increase Maybank QRPay merchant base to more than 250,000 — Maybank — “More than 250,000 merchants throughout Malaysia now accept payments using Maybank QRPay, its QR code mobile payment platform, following the recent addition of major chain outlets which include TGV Cinemas, KK Super Mart, 99 Speedmart and Big Pharmacy. This is set to increase further as McDonald’s, Mydin and Starbucks are also piloting this mobile payment option at selected stores within Klang Valley.”
