GAS GIANT: ExxonMobil’s newly launched Speedpass+ mobile app supports Apple Pay

Motorists across the US can now pay for their fuel at the pump at more than 6,000 ExxonMobil gas stations using Apple Pay and the fuel retailer’s Speedpass+ mobile payment app. The oil and gas company plans to expand the app’s availability to more than 8,000 locations by mid-year.

“The app enables customers to authorize a pump for payment securely through the use of cloud-based technology,” ExxonMobil says. “Customers have the option to select Apple Pay as a default form of payment from within the app.

“The Speedpass+ mobile payment app is available as a free download and may also be linked to checking accounts or other major credit and debit cards, including Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover and ExxonMobil cards. Customers who select Apple Pay will continue to receive all of the rewards and benefits offered by their credit and debit cards. In addition, customers can obtain receipts by email, at the pump.”

“ExxonMobil wants to make filling up your vehicle even more convenient and the Speedpass+ app has been designed to save you time at the pump,” says Matt Bergeron, vice president of fuels and lubricants marketing at ExxonMobil.

Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed that the mobile payment service was soon to be accepted at “thousands” of ExxonMobil gas stations in January 2016.
