Motorola adds three Droid Razr phones with NFC

The Droid Razr M, Droid Razr HD and Droid Razr Maxx HD will be exclusive to Verizon in the US and developer editions will also be available.

Motorola Mobility has unveiled its first new phones since the company was acquired by Google earlier this year.

The three new Droid Razr devices will all come with NFC and are designed to have enhanced battery life, processing power and large displays. Each features a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM and will ship with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. This will be upgraded to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean by the end of 2012.

  • The Droid Razr M features an edge-to-edge 4.3-inch display, the same size as the screen in the original Droid Razr but fitted into a shorter and narrower body.
  • The Droid Razr HD has a 4.7-inch display and features 78% more pixels and 40% better battery life than the original Droid Razr.
  • The Droid Razr Maxx HD has the same key features as the Droid Razr HD plus a larger battery that provides 32 hours of normal use, 13 hours of video playback or 21 hours of talk time.

All three 4G LTE phones will be exclusively available on Verizon in the US but developer editions will also be available.

“For developer and custom ROM enthusiasts, Droid Razr M and Droid Razr HD will come in a special developer edition available online only through in the US,” the handset maker explains. “Tweak, tinker and customize the day away by using Motorola’s software tools to unlock the bootloader,” it says — while also explaining “Warning: Not for the faint at heart. Warranties will be voided.”

“In countries outside the US, the device will ship with an unlockable bootloader where operators allow,” Motorola adds.

Readers interested in acquiring a developer edition handset can register for availability updates on the Droid Razr M Developer Edition and the Droid Razr HD Developer Edition on Motorola’s website.

For US consumers, the Droid Razr M is available for pre-order from Verizon today for US$99.99, after a $50 mail-in rebate and with a new two-year customer agreement. The Droid Razr HD and the Droid Razr Maxx HD “will be available before the holidays.”

“Droid devices give customers speed, power and revolutionary technology, while the Razr design delivers a thin, compact device built with strong, top-of-the-line materials and long-lasting battery life,” says Motorola Mobility. “The new smartphones are powered by the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network, giving customers the capability to simultaneously talk and browse the web and also access the blazingly fast speeds that cover more than 75 percent of the US population. With three brand new options, this lineup has something for everyone.”
