Spain’s La Caixa bank is to introduce a commercial NFC mobile payment service in partnership with Visa Europe and the country’s three leading mobile network operators — Telefónica, Vodafone and Orange. Between them, the three carriers hold 80% of the Spanish market. More

Wells Fargo to pilot Isis NFC payments
US bank Wells Fargo and Isis have announced the first phase of an agreement that will see customers with a Wells Fargo Visa credit card and an Isis NFC phone being able to load their card into their Isis Mobile Wallet and make purchases at merchants across the US. More
Westpac to launch embedded NFC payments in New Year
Australia’s Westpac bank is to introduce NFC payments from the beginning of 2014, using the secure elements embedded in some Android mobile phones. The bank is working with Visa on the project and says customers will be able to add “all Westpac debit and credit cards” to their phones. More
MasterCard and Samsung introduce embedded NFC payments
Customers of Commonwealth Bank of Australia with a Samsung Galaxy S4 can make payments using a secure element embedded in their mobile phone today, and banks in Turkey, Russia and the Ukraine are due to begin offering the solution in the first quarter of 2014. More
Tim Hortons launches NFC payments service using Host Card Emulation
North American coffee chain Tim Hortons has launched an NFC mobile payments service using Host Card Emulation (HCE) at 3,500 locations in Canada and 800 in the United States. It is currently available to customers with BlackBerry 10 smartphones and support for Android phones will be added in January 2014. More
