Japanese electronics maker Fujitsu is to introduce a wide range of smartphones and tablets with both NFC and biometric security capabilities, according to a Financial Times report.

The company is an established phone manufacturer in Japan, where it already offers handset such as the Regza Phone T-01D that support both the Osaifu-Keitai mobile wallet service and biometric security, enabling users to protect access to the contents of their mobile phone via a built-in fingerprint reader.

The decision to include NFC in its international devices appears to have only been made recently, however. In an 18 November submission to the FCC for the F-07D model, Fujitsu stated that “RFiD function is only for Japanese market. This RFiD software work on the Japanese agreed system only (example the FelCa, the Toruca, Osaifu-ketai,etc)”.

A dismissal request letter filed on 7 December, however, updates the situation:

“We, Fujitsu Limited, state that our device, F-07D, now will have RFID function in the US market.”

The F-07D, now known as the Arrows μ, was on show at the CES in Las Vegas last month — without any signs of a fingerprint reader — and Engadget filed a detailed review of the Android Gingerbread phone:
