HP has begun shipping the HP Envy 14 Spectre, an upmarket ultrabook PC that features extensive use of glass and includes NFC read/write capabilities.
The Spectre allows users to “tap-to-share” website URLs from their NFC-enabled Android phone to the Spectre, HP has told NFC World. “For example, a user could be browsing directions on Mapquest with their notebook, and can tap their smartphone to their laptop to take those directions with them on the road.
“A number of laptop materials block NFC technology, but Spectre’s glass surfaces make it an easier conduit,” the company adds.
The 14-inch Spectre uses lightweight, scratch-resistant glass on the lid, display, palmrest and ImagePad, an HD image sensor-based touchpad. It weighs four pounds, comes with up to nine hours of battery life and is available now in the US for $1,399.99. The Spectre is due to start shipping in other countries in March.
