Would-be SIM suppliers line up to battle for operators’ NFC business

OPINION: For anyone hoping to be seen as a player in the NFC SIM market, it’s becoming clear that now is the time to let the market know you’re in the game — even if you don’t yet have any product ready to ship.

Next week, the mobile industry will be descending on Barcelona for the annual Mobile World Congress. Already, though, announcements of new NFC products have been arriving thick and fast and we’ve news this issue of a new chip that combines Sony’s FeliCa and NXP’s MiFare functionality all in one phone, of Toshiba’s entry into the NFC SIM market and of a Sagem Wireless/Inside Contactless deal to develop new handset platforms that will support enhanced NFC services…
