A white paper examining the attitudes of consumers to using smartwatches and other wearables for payments, ticketing and other applications is now available to download from the NFC World+ Knowledge Centre.

Wearables: Geek Chic or the Latest Must-Have Consumer Tech? is based on the results of a survey of 1,000 consumers in five countries conducted by market research firm GfK.

35% of respondents are interested in using a smartwatch to conduct a payment and 38% would be interested in using a smartwatch as an ID card, the survey found.

Just under half would be happy to use a smartwatch as a travel ticket and a similar percentage would be interested in using a smartwatch to provide doctors or hospitals with their personal healthcare data.
