Walmart Canada to stop accepting Visa due to high fees

Retail giant Walmart will stop accepting Visa credit card transactions in Canada from mid-July due to “unacceptably high” transaction fees. “Visa and Walmart have been unable to agree on an acceptable fee for Visa transactions,” Walmart Canada says. “We will no longer accept Visa in our stores across Canada, starting with our stores in Thunder Bay on July 18, 2016. This change will then be rolled out in phases across the country.” The decision follows Walmart filing a lawsuit against Visa last month for forcing the retailer to let customers use signatures when paying with chip cards.
