A total of 39% of US consumers surveyed by Research Now for Inside Secure say they plan to use their smartphone to make an in-store purchase during this holiday season, up from 33% last year. 17% of those who did not make a mobile payment last year say they plan to use a service like Apple Pay, Android Pay or Samsung Pay this year.
45% of iOS users will make a mobile payment compared to 26% of Android users, the 2015 Holiday Shopping Trends survey reveals. 51% of mobile payment users said they would prefer to use an app from their bank instead of third-party services like Apple Pay, Android Pay or Samsung Pay.
53% of those planning to use mobile payments this holiday season are men, the survey found. 64% of consumers planning to use their smartphone at the point-of-sale are aged 18 to 44, compared to 36% of consumers aged 45 or older.
Of those not planning to use their smartphone to make an in-store payment during the holiday season, 71% stated that the privacy of their transaction data was a top concern for them. 70% cited concerns about identity theft and 70% have concerns about mobile payment fraud.
