French bank Banque Postale is testing a microSD-based NFC payment system with 500 participants in the towns of Caen and Bordeaux.

The experiment, which began earlier this month and will run until May 2014, allows participants to use their NFC phone at any contactless payment terminal, using a microSD card with integrated NFC antenna supplied by Gemalto.

A prepaid Visa PayWave app is carried on the microSD card. Customers can load their account with up to €1,500 (US$1,956) and purchases of under €20 ($26) can be completed without entering a PIN.
