MTS launches NFC payments in Belarus

Mobile network operator MTS has launched an NFC mobile payment service in Belarus in partnership with Belgazprombank, enabling subscribers to make payments across the country at merchants equipped to accept MasterCard PayPass contactless payments. Four other banks are expected to join the service by the end of 2013.

Participating locations include MTS stores, supermarkets and fast food outlets and subscribers can also pay for toll charges, taxi fares and parking tickets using the service.

To register, customers apply for a mobile wallet kit supplied by the telco; this includes a Belgazprombank card and a SIM card that supports the Mastercard PayPass banking application. Customers must also have an NFC phone.
