Visa signs up 50 financial institutions for digital wallet

Visa has announced that more than 50 financial institutions have signed up to promote its by Visa digital wallet to their customers. currently enables cardholders to make payments online without entering their card details, shipping or billing address. Instead, they simply enter a username and password. Users can opt to complete payments via a Visa card or a non-Visa card. NFC payment capabilities are expected to be added in 2013.

The 53 financial institutions have an addressable base of cardholders of close to 55 million people, says Visa. A total of 23 merchants have signed up to accept, including 1-800-Flowers,,,, and Blue Nile.

“Historically, we’ve all been unpaid data entry clerks when it comes to online shopping, typing in account, bill-to and ship-to information nearly everywhere we shop online,” Schulz adds. “Today’s consumer types in an average of 44 fields when shopping online, and gets you down to five or six.”

  1. Filling an average 44 fields when shopping online? I don’t think Visa shops at the same places as me.
