Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy S III, the successor to its best selling Galaxy S II phone.

Unlike the S II, which came in both NFC and non-NFC versions, the new Galaxy S III features NFC capabilities as standard, as well as a new NFC file transfer service called S Beam.

“Remember this Android Beam feature we introduced on the Galaxy Nexus last year?”, Loesje De Vriese, head of marketing for Samsung Belgium, asked those attending the Galaxy S III launch event in London. “We got some great feedback and a lot of very positive buzz.

“So we developed it further into what we now call ‘S Beam’. Connect your phones instantly and share anything.

“This combines the NFC technology with WiFi Direct to make it even more powerful and faster.”

“It’s the easiest and fastest way to share content with your friends — and it happens with just one touch.”

GSMArena caught the new S Beam service on video at the launch event:

Samsung has also released full video coverage of the launch event.

As well as its NFC capabilities, the Galaxy S III features a quad core processor, a 4.8 inch HD Super Amoled display and an eight megapixel camera.

The device will launch first in Europe, in time for the London 2012 Olympics where it is the official smartphone of the games. Samsung has partnered with Visa to provide VIPs attending the games with an NFC phone they can use to make mobile payments at the games.
