GAP: Customers can use SingleTap features in more than 65 Bay Area stores

Participating chains include Gap, Old Navy, Banana Republic, Banana Republic Factory Stores and Gap Outlet.

The fashion retailer is Google’s latest SingleTap merchant. SingleTap is the upper tier of Google Wallet acceptance, which allows shoppers to pay for their purchase and redeem an offer or collect rewards or loyalty points with one tap of their NFC phone. By contrast, ‘Tap and Pay’ merchants offer only NFC payment facilities.

“With Google Wallet you can not only pay for your new pair of Gap jeans, but also find and redeem promotions being offered in our stores while you shop,” says the company. “Through the end of February, Gap will offer 15% off your entire purchase when you use Google Wallet to shop at our Bay Area stores. You can find this featured deal within the app’s ‘Offers’ section.”

Gap’s previous mobile marketing initiatives include GapMobile4U, a service from Visa that distributes mobile marketing messages to the chain’s customers based on their purchasing history.
