OPINION: The last two weeks have seen two major breakthroughs for NFC. First, Singapore has become the first country to get all the key players to sign up for the creation of a fully inter-operable, multi-application national NFC ecosystem.
Second, the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona has brought a host of product announcements, deals and licensing agreements that make it clear for the first time that NFC handsets will soon be available on a mass market basis — and they won’t necessarily be expensive.
This week we’re focusing on the market for NFC. Next week, when the MWC dust has settled, we’ll take a look at new products — and in particular at NFC handsets — finding out what new devices are set to launch this year and which players look set to come out on top…
